Sign On/Retention Incentive

$1,000 Sign On for all *NEW Bus Route Drivers hired after March 2022

25% paid after successful training/licensure

25% paid after 90-day probation period

50% paid after 1-year work anniversary

*Driver must work 250+ hours within 1st year to qualify

*NEW Driver is someone who has not been employed as a driver with Herscher CUSD #2 previously

 

REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

-Must hold or be able to obtain a School Bus Commercial Drivers License by completing necessary requirements including fingerprinting, and annual physical/drug screen.

-Must participate in mandatory random drug testing program.

-Must attend required course(s) of instruction for school bus drivers.

-Must complete annual requirements to retain Bus Driver’s Permit

-Willingness to improve skills as deemed necessary through additional training, workshops, printed materials, etc.

-Must possess good communication skills

-Such additional requirements as the Board of Education may require.

 

JOB GOALS:

-To provide safe and efficient transportation so that students may enjoy the fullest possible advantage from the District’s curriculum and extra-curricular programs.

-Promote high standards of safety in all work-connected areas.

-Work in cooperation with the Director of Transportation and building administrators to improve student discipline on buses.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Including but not limited to the following:

1. Provide safe, timely, and courteous transportation of Herscher Community Unit School District #2 students.

2. Obey all traffic laws.

3. Observe all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.

4. Monitor the FM radio at all times and respond to all calls in a prompt and courteous manner.

5.Establish and maintain discipline policies when students are on the bus.

6.Report undisciplined students to the proper authority.

7. Keep assigned bus clean (inside and out).

8.Keep to assigned schedule.

9.Complete required Pre-Trip inspection reports in their entirety, making notations of unacceptable conditions.

10. Notify proper authority in case of mechanical failure or unavoidable lateness.

11. Discharge students only at designated stops.

12. Exercise responsible leadership when on out-of-district school trips.

13. Transport only authorized students.

14. Maintain current student passenger lists and bus route map.  One copy of each to be kept on bus at all times.

15. Report all accidents and complete required reports with the utmost urgency.

16. Enforce all Herscher Community Unit School District #2 student bus behavior regulations.

17. Maintain courteous and respectful communications with passengers, parents, other drivers and fellow employees.

18. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation and/or Building Administrator/Superintendent.
