SUMMARY: The choral music director is responsible for training students to be part of the choir. Specifically, the choral music director will lead grade level full choir classes, prepare students for choir competitions/concerts, and supervise said competitions. In addition, the choral music director will need to communicate effectively with students, parents, other choirs, and officials.
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
- Ability to understand and follow basic oral and written skills.
- Demonstrates understanding, knowledge, and skill for each instrument represented in the band.
- Enforce school regulations and policies in a professional manner.
- Demonstrate the ability to deal with sensitive issues in a tactful and professional manner.
- Address concerns and offer suggestions in an appropriate and confidential manner.
- Ability to maintain good working relationships with fellow employees and pupils.
- Ability to communicate with students, parents, and staff in an acceptable/courteous manner.
DUTIES
- Holds individual or small group lessons with students prior to choir competitions.
- Direct full choir class by grade level each weekday (5,6,7/8).
- Organize and hold multiple concerts per year.
- Work to improve the level and ability of each student.
- Report bus lists and sign out sheets to the office for away competitions.
- Stay abreast of new rules and regulations for choir competitions.
- Organizes and communicates desired supply order to the Principal each winter.
- Supervises students during practices, events and competitions and until all students have left the facilities.
- Positively motivate, communicate, and interact with student participants.
- Positively communicate and interact with parents, officials, and others.
- Maintains a variety of documents including records for both practices and competitions.
- Maintains an accurate and up to date gradebook.
- Makes appropriate travel arrangements and communicates with families regarding competitions or other events in a timely manner.
- Plans activities to meet the needs, skills, and interests of students involved.
- Use appropriate channels to resolve concerns, conflicts, and issues.
- Conduct practices and competitions with a high level of sportsmanship and ethics. Profanity is not to be used by teachers or students.
- Work with other directors in the music department district wide.
- May be required to perform other duties as assigned by the Administration.
