Position Title: Herscher High School Golf Coach
Reports to: Principal and Athletic Director
Summary:
Assume the duties as golf coach at Herscher High School. Be available to practice and compete from Monday of Week 6 to Saturday of week 15 (ex. For fall 2025: Monday August 11 to Saturday August 18; 10 weeks) of the IHSA calendar. The Herscher High School golf coach is responsible for the golf program (male and female athletes) at our school, including recruiting (from within the student body), training, and coaching the team. They also plan daily practices, create strategies, and motivate players.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Previous experience as a professional golfer or coaching at a high school or college level preferred
- Education: A bachelor's degree in a related field, such as Physical Education or Sports Science preferred
- Certification: USGTF or PGA certification (preferred), ISBE, AESEP, NFHS, or other coaching certification IS REQUIRED but can be obtained after hiring.
- Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to inspire students, and knowledge of sports psychology
- Physical fitness: Physically fit to demonstrate golf techniques
Duties:
- Recruiting: Recruiting and retaining new players to the team
- Scheduling: Assist Athletic Director in scheduling
- Training: Plan and lead practice sessions including strength and conditioning on a daily basis
- Coaching: Provide feedback and coaching during competitions
- Strategy: Create strategies to help the team win competitions
- Motivation: Encourage and motivate players to prepare for competitions
- Assess: Assess player’s skills and assigns team and positions
- Record keeping: Maintain player and team records.
- Course management: Encourage players to think their way through a round and pick the best misses.
- Monitors: Monitors the academic performance of team members (with the assistance of the athletic department) to ensure that eligibility requirements are met; and encourages student athletes to maintain a high academic standard.
- Follows: Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.
- Communicates: Communicates with parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the athletic performance of their student.
- Follows: Follows state, regional, and district regulations governing the athletic program.
